Session Details
I know portrait time can be stressful:
- is what we chose to wear going to look ok?
- dealing with a husband who doesn’t like having his pictures taken
- trying to keep the kids clean, their hair styled and breaking up sibling fights
- making sure everyone is rested, fed and happy
I know the stress. I feel it every year when it is time for my family’s portraits. All I ask is that you show up to your session with a positive attitude and excited about making some fun images! My shooting style is very casual and my goal is not only to provide you with great images, but also a fun and relaxed portrait experience. While I always take some time for some casually-posed portraits, my favorite images are the candid moments and photojournalistic shots that tell a story. You’ll laugh (even if I have to ask you to!), you’ll huge, you’ll kiss, you’ll hold hands, you might even dance! And when it’s all said and done you will have images that are anything but ordinary…just like your family. I strive for my clients to receive fun, happy and emotional images full of true personality.
Where will our Session Take Place?
I am an on-location custom lifestyle photographer. What does that mean? It means your session is customized just for you….at a location of your choice using beautiful natural light, no fake backdrops, no studio lights, and no “say cheese!” If you are unsure about locations I can suggest one for you. The location will depend upon the style you want for your session (ie…at a park vs. an urban location). Great portraits can also be taken in the comfort of your own home or yard.
Tell me about Newborn Photography
I absolutely love photographing newborns. Newborn sessions should be scheduled BEFORE they are born and they photograph best around 5-10 days old. Why 5-10 days old? Because they are sleepy and can be easily curled up and swaddled for those classic sleeping newborn images. Plus, colic and newborn acne can begin around 14 days old. If you are pregnant call me with your due date and we can tentatively schedule your session; then be sure to contact me as soon as possible after your baby is born in order to reserve your date. Expect your newborn’s session to last about two hours to accommodate feedings and changes. Your session will take place in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
What is the Best Time to Photograph my Baby?
The best time (besides newborn) is when your baby is able to sit on her own but is not mobile, usually around 6-9 months of age.
Do You Photograph Weddings?
Yes, but on a limited basis. Please contact for details and pricing.
Tell Me About Your Referral Program
There is no greater complement than a referral. I offer a $25 credit for each friend you refer to Heather Mickey Photography. Upon your fourth referral you will receive a free mini session!
